How to make Southern Cornbread
1. Heat a cast iron skillet over a fire and put a slice of bacon in it, melt the fat out of it, then remove this slice. Place the pan in an oven preheated to 200 degrees. 2. Mix flour with baking soda, salt, sugar. In another bowl, combine eggs and buttermilk and add melted butter. Mix liquid ingredients with dry ingredients, if the dough is too dry, add another ¼ cup of buttermilk (kefir). Remove the skillet from the oven and lay out the dough. 3. Smooth out the dough in an even layer and send the pan to the oven again, bake for another 20 minutes. 4. Cool the finished bread for 10-30 minutes, then cut into slices and taste.
