As a child, we all loved to visit our grandmother, because with her kind hands she would take a sip, and regret it, and treat her to something tasty, sweet, aromatic, for example, a poppy roll.
Perhaps the poppy seed roll is the coziest, warmest, delicious homemade pastry you can think of. Maybe that's why it was the poppy roll in my family that regularly appeared on the festive table. Nobody cooked it better than my grandmother, it is so delicious that among ourselves we still call it magic.

- Warm milk - 400 Milliliters (200 ml - in the dough, 200 ml - in the filling)
- Yeast - 2 Teaspoons
- Sugar - 13 Art. spoons (3 tablespoons - in the dough, 10 tablespoons - in the filling)
- Melted butter - 150 grams (50 g - in the dough, 150 g - in the filling)
- Egg - 2 Pieces
- Poppy - 500 Grams
- Flour - 450-500 Grams
- Honey - 100 Grams
How to cook "Poppy seed roll"
1. Prepare the oven by preheating it to 170 degrees. 2. In a container (I have a bread maker) mix yeast, warm milk and a teaspoon of sugar. Let the yeast sit for five minutes. 3. Combine yeast with remaining sugar, add eggs and melted butter. Whisk in a deep bowl. Add flour and knead the dough with a mixer. Leave it to grow in size for an hour. 4. Divide the dough into 2 pieces and roll each piece into a rectangle. 5. Prepare the filling: soak the poppy seeds in boiling water for 8-10 minutes. Drain the water by squeezing the poppy seeds and add sugar. You can grind the mixture in a blender bowl. Then add butter, honey and some milk - simmer for about an hour, stirring constantly and adding milk. Spread poppy seeds on each sheet of dough, stepping back from the edges. Roll them up. Optionally, poppy seeds can be mixed with sugar. 6. Place the rolls on a baking sheet and leave to double for 15 minutes.
